Improving listening skills with Class Dojo
For
teachers, it is always important to be able to find quality material, above all
it is essential to find the ideal component to deliver to students and
implement in the classroom. With ClassDojo, we can find multiple ways to create
activities including the active participation of EFL students so they can
create, view and interact with the content that is created, we can even
replicate the operation of known social networks so that the use is
simpler.
As we get to know this platform better, we can focus on learning listening skills in English as a second language, describing the types of activities that are out of the ordinary (audios, videos).
The main objective is to improve the ability that allows students to obtain information over obtaining 100% correct answers in EFL conversations, this means, prepare them to be able to understand situations that they will encounter in real life, and not only in a formal context.
As students explore the Classdojo app, they may find similarities with other websites, so they won't have a hard time learning how to use it, and in terms of learning new listening skills, they can add content to a system of personal profiles. , which at the same time, can be monitored by teachers and tutors to ensure the proper use and management of this program, appropriate for young children and adolescents. As EFL students set up their profiles, they can upload and view “stories”, these can be photos or videos that include the material seen, be it songs, dialogue from movies, TV series and more, as well as allowing them to interact with peers to achieve a better understanding of the topics to be studied. With classdojo we can give access to unique tools that serve students, using sources that can even be songs, that can help with pronunciation, intonation and more.
As teachers, we have the responsibility to help students not only with their doubts, but we must also provide sufficient tools, which are a guide for our students, so when we provide listening material through ClassDojo and on any platform, it is important to add the script of each conversation, dialog, etc. that add essential information (context, names, dates, cities …). However, there may be cases where we can find students who can have difficulty accessing the platform, since there may be some of them that, due to some problems, might be unable to have access to technological devices and/or have access to an Internet source due to economic and social factors (connectivity issues).
Some ways to solve most of these impediments and thus help EFL students is to get to know them to identify potential problems in each of them that can hinder learning, plan interactive activities, teach how to use ClassDojo as a beneficial tool for listening skills, carrying out activities that include videos of interest related to the class and corresponding content, in order to also deliver physical material as guides together to ClassDojo to deliver equitable aid and not depend only on a platform and methodology.
